The Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (MSC) is pleased to welcome the Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra as new members. They join a growing network of arts organizations and media companies that the MSC is building to promote innovation at the intersection of the arts, science, and technology, particularly involving supercomputing, simulation, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. These new memberships promise to lead to new kinds of digitally enabled theatrical and musical experiences.

A nonprofit membership organization based at the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS), the Media Solution Center provides a forum for the creative exchange of ideas, expertise, and resources among artists, cultural organizations, media companies, scientists, and technology developers. Through its close relationship with HLRS, the MSC also facilitates access to advanced computing and visualization technologies for artists. By joining the Media Solution Center, members enrich the expertise of the entire MSC network while gaining access to its diverse skills and perspectives.
According to Media Solution Center Director Matthias Hauser, "The Media Solution Center offers a roundtable where talented people from many backgrounds can meet, collaborate, solve problems, and develop new digital solutions for the arts. We are thrilled that two such highly esteemed organizations have joined us, and are looking forward to the visionary works that will result."
The Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus is a Barcelona-based nonprofit foundation connected to La Fura dels Baus, a performance company that is internationally renowned for its multimedia spectacles, including an opening ceremony at the Olympic Games. Épica applies La Fura's working methods for interdisciplinary learning, often incorporating cutting-edge technologies and services.
With the support of the Media Solution Center, Épica will conduct a two-week workshop in March 2021 in Stuttgart focusing on the theme "humanity in survival." The workshop will take place at the Hochschule der Medien (HdM), in collaboration with Prof. Ursula Drees and the HdM's Event Media Production Studio. Participants from various disciplines will collaboratively develop and present a performance, which will be repeated in September 2021 as part of the GATE Festival, an eCulture festival in Stuttgart that the Media Solution Center is also organizing.
Founded in 1945, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra (SKO) holds a prominent position in the international orchestral world. In addition to performing across the globe, the SKO has a discography of several hundred recordings and has counted many famous soloists among its performers.
Recently, the SKO began investigating how new digital technologies could enhance the experience offered by traditional musical performance. With the orchestra's membership in the Media Solution Center, SKO General and Artistic Director Markus Korselt will work with experts from other disciplines to explore new potential applications of artificial intelligence.
The Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg was founded in 2018 by HLRS together with the Hochschule der Medien and the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe.
