The High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) is Germany's first federal supercomputing center. It operates one of the fastest supercomputers in the world and offers universities and research institutions as well as industrial partners the use of supercomputers. Furthermore, HLRS is a world leader in the research fields of parallel computing, cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence and is significantly involved in international and national research projects. The HLRS also maintains a commercial enterprise (BgA) for the supply of computer services to industry.

For this and for general legal support in the area of (EU) research projects, we are looking for an

EU Contract Lawyer
(f/x/m, up to TV-L13, 50 %, permanent)
HLRS_15_2025

Your tasks include:

  • Preparation and review of EU funding agreements (within a cascade funding scheme)
  • Preparation, review and negotiation of collaboration agreements and consortium agreements in connection with national and EU research projects and direct communication and coordination with research partners and lawyers internally and externally
  • Review of English contracts, e.g., in the context of procurement processes (software and hardware contracts)
  • Examination of general legal issues (e.g., data protection, copyright, licensing law, intellectual property/IPR) in connection to current research projects or research proposals
  • Preparation and revision of amendments to EU Grant Agreements as well as consortium and collaboration agreements
  • Close coordination with and obtaining approvals from the Central Administration of the University of Stuttgart

We expect the following profile from you:

  • Successfully completed law studies at a university in an EU member state
  • Substantial experience in EU research legal matters, preferably at a university or research institution within the EU, or at an EU institution directly
  • Excellent knowledge of EU research-related contracts
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills, foremost, but not limited to, legal texts
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken German
  • Good knowledge of Office applications
  • Strong communication skills

Your profile will ideally be complemented by one or more skills in the following areas:

  • Good knowledge of intellectual property rights (IPR) and public (EU) procurement law
  • Knowledge of the science, research and IT sectors
  • You enjoy working in an international environment
  • Openness to widen knowledge of German (contract) law
  • Openness to widen knowledge in IT law

Depending on the tasks assigned and personal qualifications, the 50% position will be graded according to TV-L, max. up to TV-L 13. The position is open-ended.
