The High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) is Germany's first national supercomputing centre. It operates one of the fastest supercomputers in the world and offers access to supercomputers for universities and research institutions as well as industrial partners. HLRS also holds a leading position worldwide in the research areas of parallel computing, cloud computing and high-performance data analysis and is significantly involved in international and national research projects.

The Visualisation Department (VIS) of HLRS supports scientists in the visualization of HPC simulations on the desktop, in virtual reality and augmented reality and is looking for up to three

Employment is limited to various projects in the Visualization Department, until the end of the projects, which is up to four years.

Your tasks:

You will be working as a scientist in an international team on developing and applying VR and AR visualization tools to HPC simulations. In international and national research projects such as SRI-DiTEnS, Meridional, Excellerat2, it will be your task to design and develop digital twins of cities and their visualisations. Interesting topics such as Urban Heat, Greening, Heavy Rain, Noise or Air Pollutants are only a few subjects you will be working on. Others include the visualization of unsteady flow fields around wind turbines and whole wind farms. Your main task will be to help maintain and improve the visualisation tools, COVISE and Vistle, we are developing to make them ready for the exascale era. Presenting your results at different national and international conferences, events, workshops and in publications will be part of the job as well. 


Qualifications:

  • A university degree, ideally in the area of engineering, natural sciences, mathematics or computer science
  • Good programming skills in at least one object-oriented programming language (C/C++)
  • Strong focus on creativity, proactivity, conceptual thinking and continuous improvement including the ability to work under own initiative
  • Willingness to familiarise yourself with  new technology and incorporating them in interesting projects
  • Excellent language skills in English

Ideally, your profile will be supplemented by:

  • Initial experience or highly interested in one of the following fields: 
    • VR and AR
    • Human-Computer Interface
    • Parallel Programming (MPI, OpenMP) and optimization of parallel efficiency
    • GPU Programming
    • Front- and backend web development
  • Experience in Linux-based environments
  • At least basic knowledge of the German language
